en.Wedoany.com Reported - Woodside Energy has completed performance tests and officially taken over operational control of the Beaumont New Ammonia facility in southeastern Texas. The plant, with an annual capacity of 1.1 million tonnes and located approximately 140 kilometers east of Houston, is expected to nearly double current U.S. ammonia export capacity once fully operational, marking a significant step in the company's expansion into low-carbon energy products.

Woodside has signed supply agreements with major international customers for conventional ammonia, with deliveries continuing through 2026 under market-linked pricing. The company is also continuing negotiations on offtake agreements for low-carbon ammonia. However, due to delays in the construction of third-party facilities that provide key raw materials for carbon capture and storage processes, blue ammonia production is expected to be postponed until after 2026.

The Beaumont ammonia plant is expected to compete with Gulf Coast producers such as CF Industries and Nutrien in both domestic and export markets. This new capacity comes as global ammonia trade gradually returns to normal, with shipping in the Strait of Hormuz resuming after a ceasefire on June 15. As ammonia is a key raw material for nitrogen fertilizers such as urea and urea ammonium nitrate (UAN), the plant holds strategic importance for the global agricultural supply chain.
