en.Wedoany.com Reported - Several of India's leading fertilizer manufacturers are expanding specialty fertilizer capacity, including Coromandel International, Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corp, ICL Group, and SML. These companies are targeting the growing demand from farmers for crop-specific, water-soluble, and high-efficiency fertilizer products.

Specialty fertilizers are widely used in horticulture and have gained more attention for helping farmers increase yields and improve nutrient use efficiency. Compared with traditional fertilizers, these products command a significant price premium, making them highly attractive to manufacturers.

Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corp is upgrading its production facilities, shifting its business focus from selling single fertilizer products to offering crop-specific nutritional solutions. Coromandel International is increasing its specialty nutrient capacity, including building a new monoammonium phosphate (MAP) production unit in Kakinada, India.

Companies believe that the urgent need to increase yields, conserve water, and address climate-related crop stress, coupled with the prospect of higher farmer incomes, will accelerate the market adoption of specialty fertilizers.

SC Mehta, Chairman and Managing Director of Deepak Fertilisers, said: "We are upgrading our nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) plants to fully latest technology." He noted that the company began producing specialty fertilizers five to seven years ago, and the business has gained increasing attention. It is now combining crop nutrition with soil conditioners and growth promoters to improve nutrient uptake efficiency.

Coromandel's specialty nutrients and organic business performed strongly in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, driven by higher shipments in the micronutrients and organic segments. S Sankarasubramanian, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Coromandel International, said the increased adoption of specialty nutrients reflects a broader shift in farmers' approach to crop nutrition, with products such as micronutrient fertilizers, organic fertilizers, and water-soluble fertilizers gaining increasing attention as farmers seek solutions that improve soil health and help crops withstand stress, especially amid increasingly variable climatic conditions.
