en.Wedoany.com Reported - July 1 - Transocean, a Swiss-based offshore drilling contractor, has secured assignments for three of its harsh-environment semi-submersible drilling rigs on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) with Norwegian state-owned energy giant Equinor.

Transocean has reached an agreement with Equinor, subject to relevant license approvals, to deploy three of its harsh-environment semi-submersible drilling rigs for offshore operations in Norway.

The drilling rig owner emphasized that the base day rate of $399,000 does not include adjustment clauses, which will take effect before operations commence and bring the actual day rate to over $400,000 at startup.

This transaction brings a contract backlog value exceeding $1 billion over the seven-year rig lease period, excluding additional service costs. The assignment applies to three Cat D rigs, which are specifically designed for Norwegian winter conditions and were originally built for Equinor.

Keelan Adamson, CEO of Transocean, stated: "This seven-year rig agreement highlights the strength and resilience of the Norwegian high-specification harsh-environment market, as well as our strong relationship with Equinor. We will continue to work with Equinor to drive rig efficiency, improve drilling cost-effectiveness, and prioritize safe and reliable operations."

The "Transocean Enabler" rig has secured a three-year operational program, expected to commence in the first quarter of 2028, directly continuing the rig's current operational schedule. The "Transocean Encourage" rig has secured a two-year operational program, expected to start in the first quarter of 2028, directly continuing the rig's current operational tasks. The "Transocean Endurance" rig has secured a two-year operational program, planned to start in the second quarter of 2027, following the rig's redeployment from Australia to Norway.

This latest rig assignment comes shortly after Transocean won operational contracts for two harsh-environment semi-submersible drilling rigs in Norwegian and Australian waters.
