en.Wedoany.com Reported - Russian internet company VK is introducing a neural search feature called Discovery AI into its products, which generates search answers based on its own large language model, recommendation system, and search technology. The company told media outlet Habr that the first phase of the update will be deployed on VK Video, Mail Media Projects, and the Zen platform.
VK stated that the large language model underlying Discovery AI can generate responses in less than half a second. The technology synthesizes users' interests across all VK services and adapts to different usage scenarios. For example, users can search for people using free-form queries (such as "Find me someone to go hiking with") without having to filter through parameters one by one; in news services, the feature can aggregate overall background information around an event.
Discovery AI also supports a deep research mode, which can refine query details and conduct more in-depth analysis of a topic. This feature is based on the unified Discovery platform, launched in 2025 by AI VK engineers, which integrates recommendation and search functions across all company products and supports rapid deployment and scaling of machine learning models.
Ilya Altukhov, head of the AI VK Experimental Technology Department, stated that the Discovery AI neural search was specifically developed for high-load systems. He believes this approach can leverage data from different VK services to enhance content personalization.
