en.Wedoany.com Reported - Elea Data Centers plans to build an artificial intelligence computing facility in a gateway community connecting the Amazon River region, a project named BEL1 Data Center.

Located in Belém, Pará, Brazil, the data center is expected to begin operations in the second quarter of 2027. The project developer anticipates an initial capacity of 7.5 MW, with a total planned capacity of up to 100 MW in subsequent phases.

Elea will operate the facility, while Brazilian electric utility company AXIA Energia will provide 100% renewable energy through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), sourced from AXIA's hybrid mix of solar, wind, and hydropower. By building the facility near the Miramar high-voltage substation, where AXIA currently operates, Elea can shorten energy transmission distances and minimize power losses during transmission.

Once completed, this digital infrastructure will help AXIA provide the clean energy needed to run high-load AI workloads in the Amazon region. The facility will also connect to submarine fiber optic cable routes linking Europe and Latin America, expanding global digital connectivity.

Alessandro Lombardi, CEO and founder of Elea Data Centers, stated that expanding to Belém is a strategic move to broaden the company's platform geographic distribution and strengthen Brazil's digital infrastructure. Lombardi added that the project began to take shape after Belém was selected as the host city for the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in November 2025. The Conference of the Parties (COP), as a global forum bringing together world leaders and scientists, helps reinforce the region's potential to attract structural and sustainable investments to accelerate the achievement of international climate goals.

Lombardi noted that the northern region, as an emerging connectivity hub, will play an important role in Brazil's digital ecosystem. By providing an alternative route to Fortaleza, the fourth-largest city in Brazil, the BEL1 project will help reduce digital inequality and enhance the region's competitiveness. He described the BEL1 project as embodying the company's pioneering spirit, representing the legacy of COP30, and demonstrating the importance of developing sustainable digital infrastructure in strategically remote areas.

AXIA describes itself as the largest 100% renewable energy company in the Southern Hemisphere, with a portfolio that provides large enterprises with the tools needed to accelerate regional economic development.
