Masorange upgraded over 2,800 nodes nationwide with 5G SA technology. Of these, 162 nodes are located in areas previously without coverage from any operator, where additional complementary technologies were deployed alongside 5G.

The deployment covers Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, and the provinces of Salamanca, Zamora, León, Palencia, and Cáceres. Additionally, Masorange co-led implementation efforts in the autonomous community of Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, and the provinces of Badajoz, Murcia, and Alicante.

Josep María Rabés, Masorange's Director of Mobile Access, stated that this unprecedented deployment, bringing the latest generation of 5G SA connectivity to challenging environments, posed a unique technical challenge and made a decisive contribution to bridging Spain's digital divide. The project achieved 100% of its objectives, thanks to rigorous planning and execution, as well as close collaboration with public administrations and partner companies.

The development of the UNICO 5G Redes Activas program required close cooperation among multiple public and private stakeholders, and its coordination was essential for the successful completion of this technically and administratively complex project. At many rural sites, limitations in power access necessitated ongoing collaboration with electricity companies, suppliers, and line owners to secure the conditions required for deploying new infrastructure.

Some rural base station towers had structural deficiencies requiring reinforcement to accommodate new technology equipment associated with 5G. The project also involved close cooperation with public administrations at various levels, requiring permits at the municipal, regional, or national level depending on the site location, including natural parks, special environmental protection zones, or coastal areas.

Masorange concluded that the institutional support received by the operator was crucial for accelerating permit approvals and preventing local conflicts related to infrastructure installation. Thanks to this coordination and the collaborative efforts of all parties involved, the project has been completed on schedule and has fully achieved its objectives.
