en.Wedoany.com Reported - A.P. Moller-Maersk has begun deploying next-generation IoT connectivity devices for its reefer container fleet, aiming to equip all its owned reefer containers within the next few years. To date, approximately 30% of Maersk's reefer container fleet has been fitted with these devices, which support 4G/5G connectivity and can also operate on 2G/3G networks. They offer significantly enhanced processing power compared to previous generations, improved security, compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, and ensure continuous operation through solar panels.

Bruce Marshall, Head of Reefer Cargo at Maersk, stated that real-time data access is increasingly important for cold chain customers, and deploying the latest generation of IoT devices will provide them with more reliable data streams throughout the container journey.
Maersk noted that it is completing the deployment of its new digital connectivity platform across 450 vessels, laying the foundation for future smarter cargo tracking and management solutions.
Marshall pointed out that the company's new digital platform for its fleet establishes a solid foundation for the future. The next step is to replace all existing IoT devices in the reefer fleet with the latest generation technology to standardize equipment and provide customers with a more consistent experience. Since 2019, Maersk has offered customers the Captain Peter visibility solution, enabling end-to-end monitoring of cargo from sealing to final delivery. Marshall stated that as the entire reefer fleet is equipped with new devices, the experience will significantly improve, laying the groundwork for introducing new features. He added that the company aims to evolve its existing products from visibility tools into intelligent tools that help customers interpret data and provide actionable recommendations.
