Kanhan town currently has a population of approximately 35,000, with around 5,000 to 6,000 people commuting to Nagpur daily. Once the extension line becomes operational, it is expected to serve an additional 20,000 passengers per day and benefit residents of surrounding areas such as Ramtek, Tekdi, Kandri Mine, Nagardhan, Gondegaon Mine, and the Mauda Super Thermal Power Project. The line aims to provide faster and more reliable transportation for workers, students, and industrial employees.

The project financing plan is as follows: the Central Government and the Maharashtra Government will each contribute INR 39.88 crore as equity and provide interest-free subordinate debt, while the remaining INR 155.18 crore will be raised through concessional multilateral financing channels. The project proponents hope that this hybrid financing model will reduce borrowing costs and accelerate construction progress.

According to officials, the extension line will shorten travel times, encourage more citizens to use public transport, and alleviate road congestion across the region. Improved connectivity is expected to enhance access to employment centers, educational institutions, and industrial zones, supporting the city's long-term development. The Cabinet's decision is a key component of the phased expansion plan for the Nagpur Metro network.

Officials added that the project is expected to stimulate local construction activities and create indirect economic opportunities during the construction period. The planning department will coordinate with local authorities to integrate feeder services, ensuring seamless connectivity with existing transport corridors.
