en.Wedoany.com Reported - Turkey's IC Holding is planning to collaborate with U.S.-based ARC Clean Technology to deploy up to 20 small modular reactors (SMRs) in Turkey, the Middle East, and Europe.

Murad Bayar, Chairman of Nuclear Technologies at IC Holding, stated that the long-term plan includes deploying up to 10 reactors in Turkey and an additional 10 in the broader region. The two parties will develop fourth-generation reactor technology, with collaboration covering technical, economic, and regulatory feasibility studies, localization, licensing, and supply chain development.
The ARC-100 is a 100-megawatt (MW) small modular reactor with a cost of approximately $300 million, with the final cost depending on factors such as technological maturity and licensing. Application scenarios for these small modular reactors include data centers, energy-intensive industries, organized industrial zones, petrochemical facilities, mining sites, and desalination plants, as well as regions with limited grid capacity.
IC Holding and ARC are negotiating a licensing agreement to commercialize the technology in Turkey, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. Bayar stated that Turkey aims to achieve a nuclear power capacity of 20 gigawatts (20 GW) by 2050, with 5,000 megawatts (5,000 MW) coming from small modular reactors.
Last month, Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Russia's Rosatom, stated that construction of the first unit of Turkey's Akkuyu nuclear power plant has been completed. The plant has a capacity of 4,800 megawatts (4,800 MW) and is being built by Russian state-owned nuclear company Rosatom at a cost of $20 billion.
