During the final phase of the inspection, Nilabhra Sengupta led a five-member expert team, along with senior officials from the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation, to board a train at Naveen Market Station for a comprehensive trial run, while also verifying routine operational tests and readiness.

The inspection team conducted a detailed evaluation of systems including signaling and communication, civil structures, track stability, and electrical installations, covering traction power supply, vehicle condition, emergency response mechanisms, and fire safety equipment configuration. Kanpur Metro commenced initial operations in December 2021, with the opening of a 9-kilometer elevated priority section from IIT Kanpur to Moti Jheel; in May 2025, the line was extended to Kanpur Central Station via five underground stations. Once the remaining section is operational, Line 1 will run as a continuous route through the central and northern parts of the city. The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation stated that full operations represent the next procedural milestone.

The full line of Line 1 includes stations: IIT Kanpur, Kalyanpur Railway Station, SPM Hospital, CSJM University, Gurudev Chauraha, Geeta Nagar, Rawatpur Railway Station, Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, as well as Moti Jheel, Chunni Ganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Naya Ganj, Kanpur Central Railway Station, Jhakarkati Bus Terminal, Transport Nagar, Kidwai Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Baod Nagar, and Naubasta.

According to data from the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation, after the extension to Kanpur Central Station, daily ridership increased from approximately 6,000 to nearly 39,000 passengers. The corporation expects that after full operation of Line 1, average daily ridership will further rise to between 80,000 and 100,000 passengers. Authorities stated that the metro will improve travel conditions for students, office workers, industrial laborers, and commuters in surrounding areas, with enhanced connectivity aimed at supporting urban mobility and economic activities.
