Priority and reliable communication during the Tour de France start

Ensuring communication connectivity for major events like the Tour de France presents significant technical challenges. In addition to the regular infrastructure deployed by operators in towns along the race route, temporary new services must be activated to guarantee communications. Vodafone provided the Urban Guard with a dedicated priority communication channel for the event's grand start, which is expected to attract over 800,000 fans.

This solution ensures that teams deployed on-site can share real-time images and maintain a connection with the control room, even during the most densely populated periods. Vodafone utilized a 5G Standalone (5G SA) solution combined with network slicing, enabling officers to transmit video in real-time on-site via over 40 smartphones. This initiative aims to accelerate decision-making while improving the coordination of security measures during the event.

José Miguel García, CEO of Vodafone Spain, stated that an event of this scale tests network capacity in highly concentrated user spaces. Through the first combination of 5G Standalone and network slicing, the communications of the Barcelona Urban Guard operate with the highest priority and reliability.
