en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Ararat SynCon has been commissioned in Victoria. This 250 MVA unit will provide system stability support for an additional 600 MW of renewable energy generation to be connected to the grid.

Weighing approximately 300 tons, the synchronous condenser was delivered and is operated by Melbourne-based Australian Energy Operations. Site construction was completed by Victorian renewable energy company Beon Energy Solutions, and the condenser itself was built by Austrian manufacturer Andritz Hydro.

Located in Elmhurst, 190 kilometers northwest of Melbourne, the project is one of 12 delivered under the Victorian Government's AUD 480 million (approximately USD 332 million) grid strengthening investment plan, aimed at channeling more renewable energy to local homes and businesses.
These 12 projects collectively unlock 2.3 GW of clean energy, meeting 16% of Victoria's annual electricity demand.

VicGrid CEO Alistair Parker stated that the project is an example of the government collaborating with industry partners to build the energy infrastructure Victoria needs, while ensuring local communities share in long-term socio-economic benefits.
