Brazil Launches 15.3 km São Paulo Metro Line 6

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 3, the first section of the Orange Line of São Paulo Metro Line 6 in Brazil commenced commercial operations. This initial segment connects Brasilândia and Perdizes, and is a public transport project developed in partnership between the São Paulo State Government and the Linha Universidade concessionaire. The trains are manufactured by Alstom at its plant in Taubaté, Brazil.

The full Line 6 is planned to be 15.3 kilometers long with 15 stations. Once completed, it will connect the Brasilândia district in northern São Paulo to the São Joaquim station in the city center. The line is expected to reduce travel time from approximately 90 minutes by bus to about 23 minutes for some trips, with an estimated average daily ridership of 633,000 passengers. Also known as the "University Line," the route connects multiple higher education institutions and schools along its corridor.

Alstom will supply 22 six-car Metropolis trains for Line 6, with 12 already delivered. Each train can carry up to 2,044 passengers, with a maximum operating speed of 80 km/h. The car bodies are made of stainless steel, with a design life of over 40 years. The civil works are carried out by ACCIONA, while Alstom is responsible for the vehicle supply. The total project investment is approximately 19 billion Brazilian reais.Following the opening of the first section of Line 6, subsequent construction efforts will focus on the remaining sections, vehicle deliveries, and system commissioning, with full line operation expected by 2027.
