en.Wedoany.com Reported - The site of a long-closed textile factory in Canals, Valencia Province, Spain, will be transformed into a modern commercial park. Developer Construcciones Eliseo Pla Ramírez (CEP) has commenced construction. Canals Mayor Nacho Mira shared this information with Valencia Plaza.

Canals Commercial Park

The site has been home to the Ferry's textile factory since 1928. The factory was once an industry benchmark in Spanish knitwear, employing over 1,700 people at its peak in the 1980s. After the factory permanently closed in 2007, 32 buildings covering over 35,000 square meters were abandoned. The current first phase of construction involves roof removal, a preliminary step before the mechanical demolition of the old structures.

After completing asbestos removal and demolition of old structures, the project will move into the urbanization phase for the commercial park. The project plan has confirmed the first batch of operators, including a large reference supermarket and an adjacent food store on a neighboring plot, a national fitness chain, and a central dining area with shops. The architectural design reserves approximately 600 ground-level parking spaces to accommodate expected traffic flow.

Under the urban planning agreement, the developer will fully restore one of the original factory buildings of the Ferry plant and hand it over to the Canals City Council. The final use of this property is still under study, with the highest internal consensus leaning towards converting it into a textile museum.

The urban planning department expects the commercial complex to be completed and open between the end of this year and early 2027.
