en.Wedoany.com Reported - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Charleston District has commenced the final phase of construction for the Grand Strand Beach Nourishment Project, involving two beaches in Surfside Beach and Garden City, South Carolina, with completion expected by the end of August.

USACE stated that contractor Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Co. will carry out the construction in phases, first advancing northward from the midpoint, then returning to the starting point and moving southward, to minimize impact on the community and beachgoers.

The construction is divided into four phases. Phase one runs from Holiday Drive to Holly Drive (station lines 213+00 to 175+00), with crews working southward from near Holiday Drive to Holly Drive, expected to be completed by mid-July. Phase two extends from Holiday Drive to 12th Ave. South (station lines 213+00 to 275+00), advancing northward to 12th Ave. South after phase one, also expected to be completed by mid-July. Phase three covers from 5th Ave. North to Myrtle Beach State Park; the contractor will relocate to a new pipeline and work southward from 5th Ave. North to 12th Ave. South (station lines 335+00 to 275+00), then advance northward from near 5th Ave. North to the southern end of Myrtle Beach State Park (station lines 335+00 to 498+00), expected to be completed by mid-August. Phase four is the final segment, extending from Holly Ave. to the southern end of the project (station lines 175+00 to 95+00, i.e., public beach access point 27), scheduled from mid-August to late August, with final grading and finishing work to be completed immediately after sand placement.
