en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dhamra Port handled 132,365 metric tons of dry bulk cargo within a single 24-hour period, setting a new national record for daily unloading volume in India.
This record was achieved during the unloading of a Cape-size vessel named MV ASL OTSL2. The ship transported 165,283 metric tons of coking coal from Queensland, Australia, for Tata Steel, and docked at Berth No. 2. The operations team set two national records during this vessel's operations: first, the highest single-day unloading volume in 24 hours, surpassing the previous record of 127,867 metric tons set by MV Patragas while unloading a single grade of thermal coal; second, the fastest multi-grade turnaround time, with all cargo unloaded within 38 hours.
This achievement is particularly notable given the nature of the cargo. Coking coal is a non-free-flowing material, making rapid mechanical extraction more challenging. MV ASL OTSL2 carried two different grades of coking coal—Goonyella and PCI—and unloading at a record pace required precise operations, strict grade segregation, and meticulous yard planning to prevent mixing that could impact Tata Steel's production.
Devendra Thakar, CEO of Dhamra Port Company Limited (DPCL), stated that this record solidifies the port's position as the preferred maritime gateway on India's eastern coast. The official noted that leveraging highly mechanized infrastructure and deep-water conditions, the port is rapidly expanding its capacity, aiming to achieve a handling capacity of 100 million tons by 2030.
