en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Montenegro MA Highway Project, undertaken by PowerChina, has officially commenced construction. Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, and Chinese Ambassador to Montenegro Chen Xufeng jointly attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

At the ceremony, Spajić stated that the MA Highway Project is a significant milestone in the modernization of Montenegro's transportation infrastructure and a key achievement in deepening cooperation between Montenegro, the European Union, and international financial institutions. The official start of this section marks a crucial step for Montenegro in improving its north-south transportation network. The Montenegrin government has consistently prioritized the north-south highway construction as a national key infrastructure project, aiming to enhance domestic regional connectivity, improve transportation links with neighboring countries, and support economic and social development.

Chen Xufeng stated that this project is an important practice of high-quality China-Montenegro cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. He expressed hope that PowerChina would uphold the spirit of craftsmanship, advance the project with high standards and quality, and create a new model of friendly cooperation between China and Montenegro.
The Montenegro North-South Highway Project runs from the coastal city of Bar in the south to the border town of Boljare with Serbia in the north, with a total length of approximately 180 kilometers. The section currently under construction, from Mateševo to Andrijevica, is about 22 kilometers long, with a design speed of 100 km/h. The construction includes key facilities such as large bridges, interchanges, twin-tube tunnels, and retaining walls, making it the largest infrastructure project in Montenegro to date.

Tourism is a vital pillar of Montenegro's economy. Once fully completed, the project will bring multiple long-term benefits to the country's economy. Meanwhile, the local government is promoting economic diversification by actively developing industries such as manufacturing and agriculture, all of which rely on modern infrastructure and convenient transportation networks.
