UK's BRIDGE Secures £1.29 Million Highway Reinforcement Contract

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 18, Devon County Council awarded the contract for reinforcing the landslide-affected section of the A377 highway at Weirmarsh to BRIDGE Civil Engineering, with a contract value of approximately £1.29 million including tax, and £1.0776 million excluding VAT. The project is scheduled to commence on-site on September 14, with site works expected to last approximately six months.

In 2021, a landslide occurred in the embankment of the Weirmarsh section, causing instability in the slope supporting the A377 highway and partial collapse of the road edge. This project will construct approximately 50 meters of highway reinforcement retaining wall along the damaged section, of which approximately 23.5 meters will use pile retaining walls with timber barriers, and approximately 26.5 meters will use mass concrete retaining walls with masonry barriers.

The contract also includes resurfacing of approximately 970 meters of roadway and related ancillary works. The project was competitively tendered through Lot 5 of the MEWF 2026–2030 framework, with the contract awarded on August 17 and scheduled for completion by March 12, 2027, covering a contract period of seven months.

The A377 is a major road connecting several communities in North Devon, UK. Upon completion of the slope reinforcement, the contractor will restore the damaged subgrade and pavement structure, and Devon County Council will implement temporary traffic management during construction based on site progress.
