en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 18, South Australia continued to advance the A$150 million Adelaide Hills road efficiency and safety upgrade program. The Australian Federal Government is contributing A$120 million, with the South Australian Government providing A$30 million, to upgrade key arterial roads across the region over five years.

Safety upgrades on North East Road and Torrens Valley Road between Houghton and Gumeracha have been completed, including pavement resurfacing, road and curve widening, installation of safety barriers with motorcycle protection, and updated signage, standard line marking, and audible edge lines. These edge lines alert drivers who drift from their lane through sound and vibration.

Upgrades to lighting, line marking, shoulders, and signage at the intersection of Junction Road and Jones Road in Balhannah were completed in April 2026. In the same month, a new single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Onkaparinga Valley Road, Nairne Road, and Junction Road was opened, featuring pedestrian refuge islands, accessible ramps, lighting, drainage, and kerb facilities.

Upgrades on Kangarilla Road between Clarendon and Kangarilla remain under construction, covering pavement resurfacing, road widening, safety barriers, signage and line marking, and culvert extensions, with completion scheduled for late 2026. The Lobethal Road upgrade will be delivered in two stages—from Ashton to Lenswood and from Lenswood to Lobethal—with preliminary works on the first stage already underway, and both stages planned for full completion by mid-2028.

The upgrade at the intersection of Mawson Road, Battunga Road, and Nottage Road is currently in the design phase. The project will deliver a single-lane roundabout, new or upgraded pedestrian and cyclist crossing facilities, and adjustments to road space to accommodate heavy vehicle turning movements. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2027.
