en.Wedoany.com Reported - U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced that the department will provide a $310.2 million Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) loan through its Build America Bureau to upgrade express lanes and free-flow tolling systems along the I-64 and I-464 interstate highway corridors in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia.
The U.S. Department of Transportation described the corridor as "a critical regional artery that commuters rely on and freight companies use to access the Port of Virginia system, one of the largest ports on the East Coast."
"Being stuck in traffic is not just frustrating—it prevents families from getting where they need to go and costs local communities millions of dollars in economic activity," Secretary Duffy said in a statement. "The Hampton Roads Express Lanes Network is a transformative investment that will significantly reduce congestion, improve safety, and enhance the region's economic competitiveness." Duffy also praised former Governor Youngkin and Congresswoman Jen Kiggans for working with the federal government to advance the project.
