en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Mornington Peninsula Shire in Australia has announced that sand dredging operations will commence on July 13 at Sunnyside Point in Mornington, as the Victorian Government's boat ramp upgrade project progresses.

The Shire has appointed a contractor to carry out the dredging works, and Parks Victoria has issued the relevant work permits.

The dredging project aims to support the larger boat ramp upgrade by adjusting sand levels to ensure safe access to the water-based infrastructure for boats and watercraft. The Shire stated that water levels around the water-based facilities are regularly monitored, and dredging is planned when access becomes difficult or unsafe.

Sand dredged from Sunnyside Point will be placed near the Shire Hall Beach, close to the coast, to minimize impacts on the community and environment. This approach has been approved by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and Parks Victoria.

Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Stephen Batty (Cr Stephen Batty) stated that dredging is an important maintenance activity aimed at supporting safe navigation at Sunnyside Point.
