Bayer Integrates $2.4 Billion US Glyphosate Business into New Entity Ruveon
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Bayer has consolidated its US glyphosate business (including the Roundup brand) into a new independent entity named Ruveon, headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. Bayer announced the move on July 1, integrating pricing, market strategy, production, and logistics of its US glyphosate business into a single business unit, which remains part of the Bayer Group.
This restructuring is an execution measure under the Crop Science division's "Five-Year Framework" plan, through which Bayer aims to focus its business and improve profitability in the highly competitive crop protection market. In 2024, glyphosate generated approximately $2.4 billion in revenue for Bayer. Ruveon is led by Alfonso Alba Ordóñez, a 30-year Bayer veteran, as CEO, with Steve Knodle serving as Executive Vice President of Commercial Operations.
Brian Naber, Head of Crop Science for Bayer in North America and Australia/New Zealand, stated that the company is taking a significant step toward the "Five-Year Framework." Bayer positions Ruveon as a more agile player in the commodity market, which faces litigation, regulatory scrutiny, and competition from generic glyphosate suppliers.
This restructuring comes one week after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 7-2 in Bayer's favor, determining that federal pesticide law preempts state claims regarding inadequate warnings for Roundup products. Meanwhile, Bayer and Ruveon have petitioned the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. International Trade Commission, and the U.S. Court of International Trade to impose anti-dumping and countervailing duties on Chinese glyphosate, alleging dumping margins ranging from approximately 69% to over 446%. The petition has already faced opposition from some agricultural groups.
