en.Wedoany.com Reported - The French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) has awarded French company Greenerwave a framework agreement named CAMELEON, with a maximum contract value of €120 million, involving co-contractors Airbus Defence and Space and Thales. The agreement spans seven years and covers the design, development, and production of next-generation satellite communication (SATCOM) terminals, aiming to meet the growing needs of the French Armed Forces and the Ministry of Veterans Affairs in the field of satellite communications.

French Defence Procurement Agency awards Greenerwave the CAMELEON framework agreement to develop next-generation satellite communication terminals using PESA technology

As the prime contractor of the framework agreement, Greenerwave will leverage an industrial ecosystem comprising Airbus Defence and Space and Thales to develop next-generation SATCOM terminals capable of adapting to the rapid evolution of the space sector and the operational needs of the armed forces. The contract covers a wide range of satellite orbits, including Low Earth Orbit (LEO), Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), and Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO), as well as all major frequency bands used for satellite communications, and encompasses various deployment platforms such as land, naval, and air.

In the current context of the rise of new satellite constellations, a multiplying demand for secure connectivity, and the need for resilience in constrained environments, the armed forces require terminals with enhanced performance, higher energy efficiency, and ease of deployment to be compatible with an increasing number of satellite systems. The CAMELEON framework agreement aims to address these challenges through innovative solutions based on Greenerwave's electronically steered antenna technology. This approach helps deliver cost-effective, low-power terminals capable of operating across multiple frequency bands while maintaining high performance and operational flexibility. These characteristics are a significant advantage in a context of increasing capability demands and the search for rapidly industrializable solutions.

The awarding of this framework agreement is the result of years of collaboration between the DGA and Greenerwave. Previous experiments and evaluations have confirmed the maturity of the company's technology and its potential to meet the needs of the French armed forces. Geoffroy Lerosey, Chairman and Co-founder of Greenerwave, stated that this agreement is a major milestone for the company, recognizing its innovative efforts in close cooperation with the DGA, and noted that together with its partners, it can strengthen French and European technological sovereignty.

Through this framework agreement, the DGA continues its strategy of supporting defence innovation and developing an autonomous industrial and technological base in the field of satellite communications. Future projects under CAMELEON will help strengthen France's strategic autonomy in military communications and consolidate a national centre of excellence designed and manufactured in France.
