en.Wedoany.com Reported - The French Internet Exchange Point Nine continues to expand, recently adding Bouygues Telecom and cloud provider Scaleway to its membership, while SFR has significantly increased its access points. Launched at the end of March 2025, this new exchange point is gradually challenging the French internet interconnection market dominated by France-IX.
According to official data from Nine, the Internet Exchange Point (IXP) now has 138 members, up from 109 in May and just 18 at its launch in summer 2025. Nine's founder stated that the goal is to fill a market gap by offering more accessible peering infrastructure, aiming to create competition in a field primarily led by France-IX.
The latest membership list shows Bouygues Telecom connecting at 400 Gbit/s to the Equinix PA3 site in Paris, while Scaleway connects to Iliad's Opcore DC3 with an initial capacity of 100 Gbit/s. SFR is no longer relying on a single access point but is now connected across Paris, Bordeaux, and Marseille, with a total capacity of 400 Gbit/s, indicating a gradual strengthening of its interconnection with the Nine ecosystem. Additionally, Free is connected to Paris (TH2-LF) and Marseille (Interxion MRS2) with a total capacity of 200 Gbit/s, while Orange Business appears at the Paris node.
Nine's installed capacity now stands at 10.2 Tbit/s, up from 8.1 Tbit/s in May, with 63 members connected at speeds of at least 100 Gbit/s. An Internet Exchange Point is an infrastructure where telecom operators, cloud providers, hosting companies, CDNs, and other internet participants exchange traffic directly without routing through intermediate networks, resulting in lower latency, higher resilience, and typically lower transmission costs.
