en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dutch company Sorama has launched a fixed acoustic monitor, the Sorama L642Ex, certified for ATEX/IECEx Zone 1 areas.

The product received DEKRA certification on April 3, 2026, and is designed for environments where explosive gases may be present during normal operation. It provides continuous acoustic insights for critical safety assets that are typically difficult to access, helping operators in industries such as oil and gas, chemicals, energy, heavy industry, and infrastructure improve safety, reliability, and equipment uptime.

The system converts acoustic signals into actionable data to detect and locate gas leaks, mechanical anomalies, and partial discharge activity, enabling industrial teams to identify early indicators before risks escalate into larger safety or operational issues.

In hazardous areas, traditional inspection methods rely on periodic patrols, temporary measurements, or manual entry. The Sorama L642Ex adds a permanent monitoring layer by providing continuous acoustic monitoring in such environments. The system can be installed directly on assets or integrated with suitable robotic inspection platforms, such as ExRobotics' ExR-2.5—currently the only UL and ATEX/IECEx Zone 1 certified inspection robot specifically designed for potentially explosive environments like oil and gas platforms and refineries. By combining certified autonomous inspections with advanced acoustic monitoring, operators can gain more frequent insights into asset conditions, detect issues earlier, and make more informed maintenance decisions without disrupting operations.
