en.Wedoany.com Reported - Brazilian startup InspireIP has developed a solution called SignaIP to record and verify changes to digital images. The solution adopts an international standard known as C2PA, adding metadata to digital images to enable subsequent verification of authorship and modification history.
Faced with the difficulty of distinguishing artificial intelligence-generated images from traditionally created works, the need to protect artists' works from tampering on the internet, ensure their authorship is recognized, and secure compensation is increasingly urgent. SignaIP can record the author's name, website, social media information, as well as technical data such as the file's original name, extension, size, and resolution within the image.
InspireIP founder Caroline Nunes stated in an interview with Mobile Time that these metadata are more resistant to any modifications made to the image. Any changes made by third parties to the image are recorded in the digital file, forming a record containing the entire modification history.
The C2PA standard has been adopted by major companies such as Meta, Google, Adobe, and OpenAI. Among approximately 50 institutions officially authorized to use C2PA, InspireIP is currently the only Brazilian company.
When registering an image on SignaIP, the work's owner can authorize or prohibit AI services from using the image. The author can grant or deny four different types of authorization to AI engines: generative AI model training, non-generative AI model training (e.g., image classification), data mining, and AI inference. Nunes stated that SignaIP is the only solution on the market offering such a granular AI "opt-out" option.
In addition to image protection registration, SignaIP can also analyze whether an image was generated by AI. After the user uploads a file, the system indicates the probability that the file was generated by artificial intelligence, a feature particularly useful for verifying fake news on social media.
The platform is currently in the testing phase and is expected to launch commercially at the end of July. Its business model will adopt a monthly subscription system, but pricing has not yet been announced. The company's founder revealed that InspireIP plans to add registration and verification tools for PDF, audio, and video files in the future.
