en.Wedoany.com Reported - Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced that its upcoming fleet modernization plan will adopt a split order, procuring next-generation widebody aircraft from both Boeing and Airbus. Under the plan, the carrier will purchase 10 Boeing 787s and 10 Airbus A350s. This order marks PAL's first purchase of Boeing aircraft in nearly 20 years and is expected to be officially announced on July 20 at the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK.

Currently, Boeing aircraft account for less than 10% of the Philippine commercial fleet. As of now, the only Boeing model operated by PAL is the 777-300ER long-range widebody, with 10 units in service. This deal is the carrier's first order with the US aircraft manufacturer since 2007. Meanwhile, PAL is modernizing and expanding its long-haul fleet. President Duterte has launched a plan to modernize the Manila airport system and land transportation, including a railway project under a $15 billion infrastructure initiative. According to Planespotters.net, the airline currently has four A350s in its fleet, including the first A350-1000 delivered in late 2025, though this number still falls short of the 11 A330-300s.
Alongside fleet renewal, PAL also plans to increase flight frequencies on North American routes. On July 3, the airline announced it would boost North American flight frequencies later this year and increase passenger and cargo capacity to Vancouver, Toronto, and New York by over 25% during the winter season. PAL President Richard Nuttall emphasized the importance of the North American market in a statement, noting that it remains one of the carrier's most significant markets. As the flag carrier of the Philippines, the company is committed to supporting tourism, trade, and economic ties between the Philippines and key North American markets.

Additionally, PAL has decided to fully join the Oneworld airline alliance, becoming its 16th member and the second from Southeast Asia. This move will bring new benefits to members of the PAL Mabuhay Miles frequent flyer program, including access to over 1,000 destinations covered by the alliance network and entry to more than 700 lounges worldwide.

Once the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 enter service, passengers will experience a significant enhancement in flight comfort. Both aircraft feature composite structures, improved humidity and air filtration systems, and a cabin pressure altitude reduced to 6,000 feet, compared to 8,000 feet on traditional aircraft. Additionally, larger windows and customizable LED lighting help mitigate jet lag on long-haul flights. The new aircraft will also offer upgraded business class suites with sliding doors and superior in-flight entertainment. According to a preview by Aerotime, the A350-1000 cabin interior will include larger 4K in-flight entertainment screens, USB and power charging sockets at every seat, and possibly wireless charging pads.
