en.Wedoany.com Reported - MTN Uganda has reassured customers and investors of its continued investment in network infrastructure following a service outage, and has committed to a long-term presence in the country's market.

On July 5, a power outage at one of the company's data centers caused temporary disruptions to voice, data, and Mobile Money services. All services have now been restored, and the company stated that customer information and Mobile Money balances remained secure during the incident.

Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Mulinge apologized to the media in Kampala, acknowledging the inconvenience caused to users. She stated that "Uganda is Home" is not just a corporate slogan but a commitment to long-term partnership. "We sincerely apologize to every affected customer," Mulinge said. "MTN Uganda is here to stay. We will continue to invest, continue to listen, and continue to strive to earn and maintain our customers' trust."

MTN Uganda stated that it invested 549.4 billion Ugandan shillings (approximately $146 million) in its network in 2025, increasing 4G population coverage to 88.6% and 3G coverage to 96.2%, while continuing to roll out 5G services. The company said this investment aims to enhance network reliability, expand digital access, and meet user demands.

Listed on the Uganda Securities Exchange, the company is one of the largest digital infrastructure providers in the country, serving over 24.4 million users, employing a significant number of Ugandans, and partnering with thousands of local businesses. Its Mobile Money platform has become a vital component of the country's financial system, with 14.7 million active fintech customers, over 241,000 agents, and more than 114,000 merchants.

Mulinge noted that the company's role extends beyond traditional telecommunications, encompassing areas such as financial inclusion, digital skills development, youth empowerment, and women's economic participation. MTN Uganda also highlighted its contribution as one of the country's largest taxpayers. Regarding unused voice and data packages during the outage, the company stated it would provide compensation in line with customer service procedures and regulatory requirements, and has communicated with the Uganda Communications Commission and the Bank of Uganda regarding customer support measures.
