en.Wedoany.com Reported - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a €205 million (approximately $234 million) loan to Morocco to support the expansion of its high-speed railway network and fund the upgrade of infrastructure along one of the busiest transport corridors.

The bank stated in a press release that the funds are primarily aimed at enhancing the capacity and operational efficiency of the Kenitra–Marrakech line, which carries a significant share of Morocco's passenger and freight traffic.
This loan is part of Morocco's plan to invest approximately $10 billion in expanding its intercity and urban railway network, including the construction of a new high-speed rail line to Marrakech, in preparation for co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal. The new 430-kilometer line will run from Kenitra on the Atlantic coast, passing through Rabat and Casablanca, before reaching Marrakech.
This loan is part of the ongoing financing partnership between Morocco and the African Development Bank to support infrastructure projects. In December 2024, the bank announced plans to provide €650 million to support transport projects, including the expansion of railway and airport networks, as part of Morocco's preparations for the 2030 World Cup. In July 2025, the bank also approved a €100 million loan to support sustainable agriculture and strengthen food security. This is part of over €15 billion in investments the bank has provided to Morocco over more than 50 years, covering sectors such as transport, energy, water, agriculture, and finance.
