en.Wedoany.com Reported - TrebezIA has introduced an order picking solution for automated warehouses and distribution centers, combining autonomous mobile platforms with robotic arms equipped with 3D perception and artificial intelligence to identify, pick, and transport boxes and products of various sizes and shapes without the need for pre-programming.

Jon Oñativia, CEO and co-founder of the company, stated that traditional automation can cover approximately 80% of product flow in warehouses, but the remaining 20% of orders still rely heavily on manual labor, which is precisely the area this solution aims to automate.

The solution primarily targets industrial logistics operators, pharmaceutical distributors, supermarket chains, logistics companies, and large distributors, especially organizations that already have some level of automation but still require manual handling of multi-category, large-volume, or high-variability product orders. Its deployment can achieve a payback period of two to three years.

Artificial intelligence plays a central role in the system. The robot uses a 3D perception system to identify objects and obstacles in real time, employs dynamic trajectory generation algorithms to handle products in tight spaces, and features autonomous navigation capabilities, allowing it to share workspace with operators in the warehouse.

Oñativia noted that AI is key to achieving flexibility, enabling the robot to adapt to constantly changing products and environments without requiring customers to reprogram anything—a significant difference from traditional industrial robots.

Founded at the end of 2024, the company's technology originates from a transfer from TECNALIA. Between 2021 and 2023, several pharmaceutical distribution and supermarket supply companies reported to TECNALIA difficulties in automating specific picking tasks, prompting Tecnalia to develop a prototype based on its research in flexible robotics. After validation with potential customers, TrebezIA was officially established. The SPRI Group provided support from the early stages, and the company was selected for the first Basque Tek Ventures program, receiving funding through projects such as Ekintzaile, BDIH Konexio, and Innobideak Fast Track. Gestión Capital Riesgo del País Vasco acquired a stake with an investment of €250,000. The company was also chosen as one of 20 BIND Corporate enterprises from 882 applications, a participation that helps promote the technology to large industrial and logistics companies, accelerate the validation process, and open new business opportunities during the critical go-to-market phase.

The company plans to industrialize its first product and achieve initial sales by the end of this year, leveraging validation work conducted with Novaltia in the pharmaceutical sector. Additionally, the company is developing a second project: a mobile palletizing solution for food distribution. The company also plans to participate in the LogiMAT trade fair in Stuttgart, Germany, in 2027 to advance its scaling efforts in the European market. Oñativia stated that the goal is to establish TrebezIA as a benchmark in mobile manipulation robotics for warehouses in Europe.
