en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Consorcio Portuario Regional Mar del Plata has successfully recovered 1,407 linear meters of operational dock space by implementing a comprehensive plan for the removal and dismantling of idle vessels.

The latest milestone of this plan is the release and reorganization of space at Docks 5 and 6. This achievement resulted from moving the hull of a 46-meter fishing vessel, abandoned for over 15 years, to the slipway of the Base Naval Mar del Plata for final dismantling. Prior to this, the vessel had undergone initial disassembly and cutting work at the local dock.

This operation was coordinated by the Port Authority, military units, and the Prefectura Naval Argentina. Under the plan, depending on the condition of each vessel removed, they are either transported to other ports, dismantled for scrap metal, or sunk at the Parque Submarino Cristo Rey off the coast of Mar del Plata to create artificial reefs.

Marcos Gutiérrez, President of the Port Consortium, emphasized that the recovery of operational space and improvements through public works are crucial for the port, and praised the ongoing efforts to create jobs and ensure the dock is safe, comfortable, and vibrant.
