en.Wedoany.com Reported - Red Eléctrica has completed the construction of the new San Isidro 66 kV substation in Granadilla de Abona, southern Tenerife, with an investment of €6.8 million. The project aims to strengthen the transmission network, enhance power supply reliability, and facilitate the integration of local renewable energy.

This facility will serve as a new support node for the transmission grid in the island's strategic area. Red Eléctrica, a subsidiary of Redeia responsible for Spain's electricity operation and transmission, is undertaking this action as part of the provisions reserved for the Canary Islands under the current electricity plan.
The San Isidro 66 kV substation uses gas-insulated (GIS) technology, with equipment compactly arranged within a building. Compared to conventional configurations, this design reduces the footprint and minimizes visual impact. The substation features four bays, connecting to the Arona and Granadilla lines, along with other grid operation-related functions. The project also includes a double-circuit 66 kV transmission line approximately 200 meters long, designed to connect the new substation to the existing Granadilla-Arona 66 kV line. This configuration helps improve the operational flexibility of the southern Tenerife transmission network and enhances response capabilities to potential incidents.
The project has been included in the current plan and listed among projects funded by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU program, under the "Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan." The development of the San Isidro 66 kV substation strengthens the network structure at key nodes of Tenerife's power system. The facility aims to improve the transmission grid, enhance power supply security, and facilitate the evacuation and integration of new renewable energy in the Granadilla de Abona area. Its completion is part of the implementation of pre-built power infrastructure in the Canary Islands.
