en.Wedoany.com Reported - Egypt's Damietta Port achieved a record cargo throughput of 46.4 million tons in the 2025/26 operating year, a 5% increase from 44.2 million tons in the previous year. This milestone set a new annual cargo handling record for the port since its inauguration in 1986.

Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir stated in a declaration that the record performance reflects continuous improvements in port operational efficiency and the success of ongoing modernization and expansion projects. During the 12-month period, the port successfully received 3,261 vessels, up from 3,221 in the 2024/25 cycle. Bulk cargo volume increased by 6% to 31.6 million tons, while container cargo grew by 3% to 14.8 million tons, indicating rising demand for port services and its capacity to accommodate expanding maritime trade.

The minister noted that this achievement supports Egypt's strategy to develop its ports into regional hubs for transportation, logistics, and re-export trade, aligning with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to enhance national maritime infrastructure and competitiveness. As Egypt continues to expand its logistics capabilities, Damietta Port's record performance is seen as a testament to the outcomes of national infrastructure investments, positioning it for an increasingly dominant role in global and regional maritime trade.
