The meeting took place in Nairobi on July 9, chaired by Eng. John Tanui, Principal Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, with participation from U.S. Embassy representatives, Emmanuel Kata, Secretary of the Information and Communications Security Authority, and Immaculate Kassait, Data Protection Commissioner.

The discussions focused on enhancing data governance, promoting secure cross-border data flows, and identifying opportunities for deepening bilateral cooperation between Kenya and the United States in the digital domain. According to the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, Tanui stated that aligning Kenya's national data governance framework with international best practices would solidify the country's position as a trusted digital economy and one of Africa's leading technology and innovation hubs. The meeting also emphasized the need to build a secure and trustworthy digital ecosystem capable of supporting innovation, attracting investment, and enhancing Kenya's competitiveness in the global digital economy. Officials noted that robust data governance would play a key role in advancing the national digital transformation agenda while boosting confidence among businesses, investors, and citizens.
