en.Wedoany.com Reported - OptimERA xG and Quintillion have deployed a Starlink bonded gateway in Utqiaġvik, Alaska, providing a high-capacity auxiliary connection path for the northernmost city in the United States. The deployment delivers up to 10 Gbps symmetric peak capacity per Starlink gateway, with the bonded configuration offering up to 20 Gbps symmetric capacity to maintain network continuity during disruptions to the primary infrastructure.

Located approximately 320 miles (515 kilometers) north of the Arctic Circle, Utqiaġvik relies on a single-homed submarine fiber optic cable route for its primary network connection. The bonded gateway system integrates with Quintillion's local network infrastructure and activates automatically when the primary route becomes unavailable. In the event of an outage, traffic can be switched to the Starlink network, transmitted through the low Earth orbit satellite constellation via inter-satellite laser links to restore external connectivity.
This project builds on a bonded gateway deployment completed by OptimERA xG and Starlink in Unalaska in 2023. OptimERA xG stated that the Utqiaġvik deployment extends this architecture to another Alaskan community, where geographic conditions, Arctic weather, sea ice, and limited ground infrastructure complicate network restoration efforts. Alaska Airlines, ASTAC, and UIC provided logistics and transportation support for the installation.
