en.Wedoany.com Reported - DP World has launched the EcoRoute solution, aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the logistics industry while maintaining supply chain performance. The company stated that the freight and logistics sector accounts for approximately 10% of global energy-related carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, with transportation contributing 60% of logistics-related carbon emissions.
The multinational logistics company, operating across 83 countries on six continents, noted that its customers' Scope 3 emissions account for 75% of the company's total carbon footprint, and these indirect emissions are difficult to manage due to poor visibility and high complexity. Consumer demand for sustainable shopping options, stricter regulations, and investor scrutiny are driving business leaders to seek new approaches from logistics partners. EcoRoute aims to respond to customer expectations for efficient and sustainable supply chain operations.
The EcoRoute solution suite integrates transport mode shift programs, electric transport solutions, and alternative fuels to reduce emissions and logistics costs. The transport mode shift program involves moving cargo from high-emission modes (such as air freight) to low-emission modes (such as sea or rail). The company also utilizes eco-friendly warehouses and facilities equipped with integrated renewable energy systems, efficient lighting, and climate control technologies, providing customers with tighter transport control and greater visibility through multimodal transport solutions.
Ayla Bajwa, Senior Vice President of Sustainability at DP World, stated that EcoRoute is designed to turn ambition into action, providing customers with the tools, insights, and partnerships needed to reduce emissions. According to the company, its approach helped a major African retailer increase transport volume by 45% without expanding its fleet (which grew by only 5%), achieved through a centralized logistics control tower solution that improved vehicle utilization by 88%. Carbon internal offset projects have yielded results for Scope 3 emissions, generating over 9,400 tonnes of verified CO₂ internal offsets from 257,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) of cargo flow at Southampton and London Gateway ports in 2025.
DP World's carbon emissions calculator provides end-to-end emission visibility across transport modes. Beat Simon, Chief Operating Officer (Logistics) at DP World, said that EcoRoute combines the connectivity of a global network with data and operational expertise, helping customers reduce emissions while improving efficiency and resilience. The platform supports data sharing between customers and partners, enhancing supply chain performance through integrated and customized solutions.
