DHL Asia Pacific Heavyweight Express Average Daily Weight Grows 16% in First Seven Months

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 16, DHL Express disclosed that from January to July 2026, the average daily cargo weight of its time-definite international express business in the Asia Pacific region (excluding China) increased by 16% year-on-year. The growth mainly came from the Heavy Weight Express (HWX) service launched in the first half of this year. This product supports international express transport of up to 1,000 kg per piece and up to 3,000 kg per shipment, covering heavy time-critical cargo such as machinery and equipment, industrial parts, automotive components, and high-value technology goods.

DHL said that in the first seven months of 2026, the fastest-growing markets for heavy express shipments in Asia Pacific included India, the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, and Hong Kong, China. Among them, the Philippines, along with India and Vietnam, was included in DHL Group's "Geographic Tailwinds" key growth markets, where manufacturing, procurement, and cross-border supply chain activities are expanding demand for highly time-sensitive heavy transport.

According to industry research data cited by DHL, the annual heavy cargo transport scale in the Asia Pacific region (excluding China) is approximately 10.2 million tons. At present, among DHL Express heavy express shipments, high-value technology goods account for more than 34%, mainly including semiconductors, servers, cooling equipment, and electrical infrastructure; engineering manufacturing and the automotive industry are also major sources of cargo, with the automotive industry growing the fastest, as the weight of related shipments increased by nearly 20%.

The growth in automotive cargo mainly came from cross-border transport of electric vehicles and components in Asia. DHL said that as Chinese and Southeast Asian automakers expand into overseas markets, vehicle manufacturers need to procure components from multiple countries and regions and use air express to shorten the transport time of key parts. This type of demand has become one of the important sources of growth for HWX heavy express shipments.

To support its Asia Pacific network, DHL Express has continued to expand regional air and ground infrastructure in recent years, adding or upgrading gateway facilities in Hong Kong, Cebu and Manila in the Philippines, Christchurch in New Zealand, Hanoi in Vietnam, and Delhi in India. Its Asia Pacific network currently has about 1,000 facilities and operates about 810 flights per day.

The Philippine network also recently completed expansion. In May 2026, DHL Express opened a new Manila gateway in Parañaque, with an investment of about EUR 9 million. The new facility has an inbound shipment handling capacity of up to 2,400 pieces per hour and an outbound shipment handling capacity of up to 2,000 pieces per hour, used to enhance time-critical cargo handling capacity around Manila International Airport.
