ADM and Voltloader Expand Electric Heavy Truck Fleet to Five Vehicles in the UK

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 14, ADM expanded its UK electric heavy truck fleet to five vehicles, deployed across three operating sites in Corby, Knottingley, and Avonmouth. This expansion builds on ADM's previous single-vehicle trial with electric transport service provider Voltloader, and the supporting charging infrastructure is now capable of supporting multi-shift operations. According to ADM's calculations, once the existing five electric heavy trucks are in operation, they can reduce approximately 375 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year compared with the original diesel fleet.

ADM initially launched the electric heavy truck trial in Corby in 2024, with Voltloader using electric heavy vehicles to transport wheat from farms to ADM processing facilities, carrying out approximately 10 trips per week. The trial vehicles used Volvo FM Electric electric tractors and modified Weightlifter self-discharging semi-trailers, primarily to verify load capacity, range, and route suitability in agricultural raw material transport scenarios.

After completing the first round of testing, Voltloader installed ultra-fast charging equipment in Corby to support double-shift operations and shorten vehicle waiting times. The charging facility is also open to third-party commercial vehicles. ADM then expanded the electric heavy truck program to Knottingley and Avonmouth, and the two sites together with Corby now form the current operating network of five electric heavy trucks.

In September 2024, ADM further extended electric transport from upstream wheat transport to finished flour delivery, conducting a direct delivery trial using electric tractors on the Corby to Jacksons Bakery route. The first batch of trial runs completed two truckloads of flour transport, with each vehicle carrying 23 tonnes.

In October 2025, ADM further added 2 battery-electric heavy trucks to its UK flour delivery fleet and installed high-speed charging equipment in Corby. The company disclosed at the time that each electric heavy truck, calculated at approximately 100,000 kilometers of annual driving, was expected to reduce approximately 95 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year. This batch of vehicles is charged with renewable energy electricity and mainly undertakes direct delivery tasks from the Corby processing site to UK customers.

Currently, ADM's UK milling operations transport approximately 800,000 tonnes of wheat per year. Following this latest expansion, electric heavy trucks have moved from single-vehicle trials to a stage of continuous operation with multiple vehicles across three sites. ADM and Voltloader are also evaluating the further application of the existing operating model to upstream agricultural product transport and downstream food delivery.
