Award of Section A of the 63.6 km Northern Corridor of Vicuña, Argentina

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 11, Vicuña Corp. announced that it had awarded construction sections A1 and A2 of Section A of the Northern Corridor (Corredor Norte) of the Vicuña copper-gold-silver project to a temporary consortium (UTE) composed of Contreras, Boetto y Buttigliengo Constructora (BBC), and the San Juan-based company Construmin. The awarded route totals 63.6 km in length, extending from Angualasto to Junta La Palca and passing through Malimán. It is the first section of the planned approximately 220 km Northern Corridor.

The Northern Corridor will serve as the main overland access route to the Vicuña project from the direction of San Juan Province, Argentina, supporting subsequent construction and logistics transport for the integrated development of Josemaría and Filo del Sol. Vicuña has completed the engineering design for Section A. The scope of this contract includes large-scale earthworks, embankment filling, rock excavation and blasting, drainage systems, retaining structures, road signage, and traffic safety facilities.

The contractor BBC disclosed that the contract period for sections A1 and A2 is 24 months. The route is a high-mountain road project and, in addition to the 63.6 km road, also includes a bridge of approximately 100 meters. The project is expected to complete approximately 1.4 million cubic meters of excavation and 2.55 million cubic meters of filling and compaction, with total earthworks of approximately 4 million cubic meters.

This Section A construction consortium was formed on the basis of supplier business matchmaking previously organized by Vicuña. During the bidding process, the project owner simultaneously evaluated technical proposals, economic conditions, and local enterprise participation, and ultimately the consortium formed by the two Argentine national contractors Contreras and BBC together with the San Juan local company Construmin won the bid.

Other sections of the Northern Corridor had previously been advanced in batches. When Vicuña launched bidding in January 2026 for the construction of sections A through D, it disclosed that sections E and F had previously been awarded to a consortium composed of Terusi Construcciones and Semisa Infraestructura; the entire road system will constitute the long-term transport corridor for the Vicuña mining area on the San Juan Province side.
