These routes extensively utilize aircraft such as the Boeing 787-8, Airbus A321XLR, Boeing 777, and Boeing 737, further expanding its global network.

According to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium, comparing the route networks of 2025 and 2026 reveals significant differences in range and flight frequency for these new routes, highlighting the diversity of American Airlines' offerings as a global carrier.

In May of this year, American Airlines launched new routes from its Philadelphia hub to Budapest and Prague using the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Each route will operate 135 flights in 2026, providing 31,590 seats. Elsewhere on the East Coast, a route from New York's John F. Kennedy Airport to Edinburgh using the Airbus A321XLR began operations in March, with 230 flights planned. Meanwhile, the first flight from Miami to Milan launched in March, operating 234 times on the 787-8; Dallas/Fort Worth introduced new flights to Athens and Zurich using the 777-200ER and 777-300ER. The airline stated that its domestic hubs play a key role in summer operations.

In the southern direction, American Airlines launched five new international routes to the Caribbean and South America this year. Four of these depart from Miami, with the sole exception being a new route from Philadelphia to Cibao International Airport (STI), which serves Santiago de los Caballeros, the second-largest city in the Dominican Republic, planned for 118 flights using the 737. Among the other four new routes from Miami, the one to Simón Bolívar International Airport (CCS) in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, is the most popular, with 471 flights planned for 2026 (149 using the 737-800 and 322 using Envoy Air's Embraer E175), offering 50,100 seats in one direction, beginning operations in late April. In Venezuela, a new route from Miami to La Chinita International Airport (MAR) in Maracaibo is planned for 171 flights, all using the E175, expected to start operations on July 14. Additionally, a new route from Miami to Bimini launched in February, and daily 737 flights to Cap-Haïtien will begin operations in November 2026.

American Airlines also launched two new routes to Canada, both departing from New York's John F. Kennedy Airport. The first route uses the 737 MAX 8 to operate 26 flights to Calgary International Airport (YYC), scheduled from August to October. Another new route from JFK to Quebec City is operated by Republic Airways under the American Eagle brand using E175 jets, with a total of 69 flights planned, also operating from August to October but at a higher frequency.
