en.Wedoany.com Reported - The parish of Vialonga (Freguesia de Vialonga), Portugal, is advancing a new round of waterway maintenance works, which are part of the annual protection plan for the urban water network and are implemented in accordance with the guidelines of the Portuguese Environment Agency (Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente).
The construction sites are located along the Ribeira da Carvalha near Rua dos Caniços, and along the Ribeira dos Estanques, involving approximately 473 meters and 535 meters of river channel, respectively. The work includes clearing existing vegetation from the riverbanks and riverbed to improve water flow conditions and reduce the accumulation of plant matter that could cause blockages.
On the Ribeira dos Estanques, the contractor carried out riverbed dredging in the grating areas of Largo Maria de Lurdes Pintassilgo and Rua Dr. Sousa Martins, restoring the drainage capacity of these points and improving the hydraulic performance of the waterway.
Regular maintenance of waterways is a key preventive measure aimed at reducing the risk of blockages and flooding during periods of heavy rainfall, while also helping to protect the ecological balance of the waterway and the safety of people and property.
These works are part of a maintenance plan implemented throughout the year by the Municipality of Vila Franca de Xira for the urban river sections under its jurisdiction, aimed at promoting the preventive and sustainable management of waterways.
