en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Albufeira City Council (Câmara Municipal de Albufeira) has begun directly managing the selective collection at ecopoints across the city and the door-to-door collection of commercial waste, following an agreement signed with ALGAR – Valorização e Tratamento de Resíduos Sólidos, S.A. (ALGAR – Solid Waste Recovery and Treatment Company).
This transfer of responsibilities represents a significant step forward in improving the municipality's waste management, enabling the City Council to develop services that are closer to residents and economic agents, offering faster, more efficient operational responses tailored to local needs. By directly managing selective collection at ecopoints, the City Council aims to increase residents' participation in the recycling process, thereby boosting the volume of recyclable waste collected and sent for recovery.
In the commercial and service sectors, door-to-door collection will be provided by the City Council through a more personalized model, adapted to the characteristics and expectations of each establishment, helping to improve participation in waste sorting and recycling rates. The new management approach also allows for faster intervention in the maintenance of faulty sorting equipment, ensuring good operating conditions for the existing network of ecopoints in the city.
At the same time, the City Council is preparing significant investments in the purchase of new sorting equipment, expanding service coverage, and responding to the numerous requests for the installation of ecopoints made in recent years. This measure will expand the existing network, bringing equipment closer to residents. Merchants interested in joining the door-to-door selective collection service free of charge can contact the municipal services.
