en.Wedoany.com Reported - Red Eléctrica has advanced the construction of the Morella-La Plana double-circuit 400 kV transmission line, aimed at strengthening the electricity supply in the province of Castellón and promoting industrial electrification. The project connects the Morella and La Plana substations, spanning 86.94 kilometers with a total investment exceeding 60 million euros, and is expected to be operational by the end of 2028.

In recent weeks, Red Eléctrica has obtained the Administrative Construction Authorization (Autorización Administrativa de Construcción) and the Declaration of Public Utility (Declaración de Utilidad Pública) for the entire line, clearing the way for project execution. The project is included in the current electricity plan approved by the Council of Ministers and is binding for Red Eléctrica.

The new infrastructure will replace the existing line, which will be dismantled once the new line is operational. Compared to the current facilities, the project will reduce the number of towers by 25%, aiming to minimize the infrastructure's impact on the land. The project underwent a lengthy administrative process to determine a route compatible with land integration. Currently, Red Eléctrica has completed the foundation work for 74 towers and continues to advance new construction in several sections where agreements with landowners have been reached. The company states that this situation exists along most of the line's route. Foundation work for new towers will begin this week in the approved sections, with construction activities adjusted to account for bird nesting periods (in some cases from January to July) in line with expected environmental constraints.

This 400 kV line is designed to improve the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of the electricity supply in Castellón. Its development is linked to the need to expand the region's power transmission capacity, where industrial electricity demand is high and production processes are undergoing a decarbonization phase. Mentioned industries include the ceramics sector, a key economic activity in the area, whose energy needs are tied to the transition to low-emission processes. The infrastructure is also seen as a pillar to support new industrial projects and initiatives related to green fuel production. Since the project's inception, Red Eléctrica has maintained dialogue with local institutions, including city councils and other stakeholders, aiming to coordinate infrastructure construction, seek consensus-based solutions, and explore areas of cooperation related to local socio-economic development.
