en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, a key milestone was achieved at the 3,000 MW combined cycle power plant project in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria—the largest gas-fired captive power plant project in Africa—as the No. 3 gas turbine was safely and smoothly installed. The project, contracted by PowerChina, is a significant undertaking for the green transformation of Nigeria's energy structure.

Located in the Ibom Energy Free Trade Zone in Akwa Ibom State, southeastern Nigeria, the project has a total installed capacity of 3,000 MW. Its scope includes the installation and commissioning of 12 gas turbines, 6 steam turbines, 12 heat recovery steam generators, and associated auxiliary facilities. Once fully completed, the plant will serve as the core power hub for the relevant industrial park, providing energy security for enterprises within the zone.

During construction, persistent heavy rainfall in Nigeria's rainy season caused muddy site conditions and blocked transport routes. The project team implemented meticulous management across the entire process through advance planning and scientific scheduling. After the No. 3 gas turbine arrived on site, the team quickly completed lifting, precise positioning, and one-time installation. The lifting operation was safe and stable, demonstrating organizational capability and professional expertise in heavy-lift operations.

This project is a key component of Nigeria's national power reform and industrial zone energy autonomy strategy, aimed at addressing local power shortages and driving industrialization. Once fully operational, it will enhance regional power supply capacity, provide energy support for local economic and social development, and contribute to the optimization and upgrading of the energy structure in West Africa.
