en.Wedoany.com Reported - A new freight corridor in Georgia has officially opened, designed to optimize cargo flow by connecting Interstate 16 with the Garden City Terminal at the Port of Savannah.

The $126 million Brampton Road Connector opened on Wednesday, creating a direct four-lane highway to the terminal. The project, linked to the interstate, aims to eliminate at-grade crossings in local communities and reduce truck traffic passing through neighborhoods. Truck drivers will now be able to reach the port faster and enjoy smoother routes to inland markets.

Griff Lynch, CEO of the Georgia Ports Authority, stated that the trucking community will achieve faster port turnaround times and benefit from safer inland routes, thereby enhancing the speed of the Savannah supply chain.

The Brampton Road Connector is the final piece in a series of projects by the Georgia Department of Transportation to create a freight loop in the city of Savannah. Over the past 12 years, the department has invested nearly $600 million in road projects, including: $295 million to upgrade Interstates 16 and 95 to ensure safe and smooth travel for commuters and cargo on the interstates; $129 million for the Jimmy Deloach Parkway, a restricted truck route connecting the Garden City Terminal to Interstates 16 and 95; $22.5 million for the State Route 307 interchange to carry vehicle traffic and support free movement of trucks and trains at the Port of Savannah's Mason Mega Rail terminal; and $14.2 million to upgrade Grange Road to improve truck access between the Jimmy Deloach Parkway and the Garden City Terminal.

The Georgia Ports Authority has other projects underway. In May, the port opened a new inland port in Gainesville, with a construction cost of $134 million and an annual capacity of 200,000 containers. This inland port project is part of the port's 10-year, $5 billion infrastructure investment plan.
