en.Wedoany.com Reported - Emirates is rolling out premium economy across its entire fleet, with all newly delivered widebody aircraft already equipped with this cabin class. The airline plans to make premium economy a core product of its route network, while its main competitors, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways, have yet to introduce it.

The Airbus A350-900 is the first model to be fully equipped with the new cabin class, featuring 21 or 28 premium economy seats in a seven-abreast layout. The Boeing 777-200LR has completed its fleet refurbishment, installing 24 seats in an eight-abreast configuration. Emirates plans to refit 71 777-300ERs, with 43 completed as of writing, also featuring 24 seats in an eight-abreast layout. The airline operates 267 passenger aircraft, including 24 A350-900s, 116 A380-800s, 10 777-200LRs, and 117 777-300ERs. Among the 116 A380s, 51 have been refitted with premium economy, including 50 standard models with first class. One A380 with a new high-density layout has 56 premium economy seats on the upper deck, replacing the original first class; this aircraft has 76 business class seats (instead of the previous 58), reducing the total seat count from 615 to 569. In the remaining A380s, premium economy is located on the main deck.

Emirates premium economy cabin

All aircraft equipped with premium economy use Recaro PL3530 seats with a pitch of 40 inches (101.6 cm), above the average. The cabin layout varies by aircraft type: seven-abreast on the A350 and A380 upper deck, and eight-abreast on the Boeing 777 and A380 lower deck. Soft product offerings include upgraded dining services, with rotating seasonal menus inspired by regional themes, meals served on china with metal cutlery, a more extensive beverage list, and selected business class wines. Passengers also receive a sustainable eco-friendly amenity kit containing skincare products and travel essentials. The smaller size of the premium economy cabin means service is more attentive than in economy class.

The value of premium economy is particularly prominent on routes of 5 to 7 hours, such as those from Europe to Dubai. On flights of this duration, passengers benefit from more personal space and better meals, while the advantages of business class, such as lie-flat seats, have less impact. On longer routes, the added comfort is more beneficial, but business class becomes more attractive due to its lie-flat capability. Emirates has deployed A380s equipped with premium economy on its flagship routes to North America, Asia, and especially Europe.

For Emirates, premium economy offers higher profit margins. This cabin class does not take up significantly more space than economy class, although Emirates' layout is slightly more spacious, but ticket prices are typically about twice those of economy. While business class generates higher overall revenue, many airlines report that premium economy is their most profitable cabin on a per-square-foot basis.

Premium economy pricing often approaches that of business class, creating a controversial value proposition since the seat differences are not significant. This is partly due to limited supply, with fewer premium economy seats creating scarcity during high demand. Emirates has reduced fares on some routes to remain competitive. Despite the high prices, its popularity among passengers indicates strong market demand for additional space compared to economy class.

Premium economy has become a mainstream and profitable product for airlines. Emirates' success with this product demonstrates that it meets core market demand on medium- to long-haul routes.
