en.Wedoany.com Reported - The 100th train of the regional railway operator Koleje Dolnośląskie in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship of Poland entered service on July 14. The train is a 48WEc-064 type Elf electric multiple unit manufactured by Polish producer Pesa Bydgoszcz, and is the 37th unit in the operator's order of 55 Elf trains.

The operator currently operates entirely with its own rolling stock, totaling 100 trains, 60 of which were built at the Pesa Bydgoszcz factory. Once all ordered trains are delivered, the number of vehicles produced by Pesa for Koleje Dolnośląskie will reach 88.

Governor of Lower Silesia, Paweł Gancarz, stated that the revival of Polish railway transport began years ago with Koleje Dolnośląskie, which sets new records annually in mileage and passenger numbers, and has now surpassed the symbolic threshold of 100 rolling stock units.

The operator's first trains were built in Bydgoszcz in 2008 as diesel multiple units (DMUs). Since 2022, Pesa has been delivering Elf electric multiple units, and upon contract completion, there will be 55 such trains, making it the largest fleet of Elf trains in Poland.

Deputy Governor of Lower Silesia, Michał Rado, noted that the total value of trains ordered from the Pesa Bydgoszcz factory exceeds 2 billion Polish złoty (approximately 469 million euros). However, railway transport development would not be possible without EU funding, as subsidies cover 85% of the value of these vehicles. The current batch of Elf trains is financed by the Polish National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The Bydgoszcz factory produces one rail vehicle per day. Currently, Pesa Bydgoszcz is simultaneously executing multiple train and tram production projects, including building vehicles for Romanian railways, constructing trams for the Silesia region, and manufacturing RegioFox multiple units for the Czech Republic. According to statistics, one new passenger vehicle rolls off the production line at the factory every day.

President of Koleje Dolnośląskie, Damian Stawikowski, pointed out that each of the 100 trains carrying thousands of Lower Silesian residents daily is made in Poland, with the majority built in Bydgoszcz. Recently, Pesa also launched trial runs of trains designed for a speed of 200 km/h for Czech operator RegioJet, marking an important milestone in its development.

President of Pesa, Krzysztof Zdziarski, stated that Koleje Dolnośląskie is one of the strategic partners, currently producing not only 55 Elf electric multiple units but also 10 diesel multiple units for them. The Pesa Bydgoszcz factory employs approximately 4,000 people, with an annual production order value of around 1 billion euros.
