en.Wedoany.com Reported - REC Limited, an Indian power finance company, and the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 14 at REC's headquarters in Gurugram, focusing on cooperation in quality testing and assurance mechanisms for materials deployed under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

According to the MoU, REC and CPRI will collaborate on third-party quality testing of RDSS project materials, technical support, capacity building, and the development of a quality framework. This initiative aims to ensure that materials used in RDSS projects—including key components such as transformers, cables, and switchgear—meet prescribed standards, thereby reducing the risk of power supply interruptions caused by equipment quality issues and enhancing the operational reliability of the national distribution network. The two parties also plan to jointly conduct technical training for distribution companies, helping them master quality testing methods and standards to strengthen material quality control at the source.

The MoU was signed by Yogendra Singh, General Manager and Head of the Quality Department at REC, and M.G. Anandakumar, Joint Director of CPRI. The signing ceremony was attended by Prince Dhawan, Executive Director of REC (Indian Administrative Service), Neha Adhikari, Joint Director of CPRI, and other senior officials from both organizations.

RDSS is a national-level initiative by the Government of India to enhance power distribution infrastructure. By upgrading aging equipment and improving grid management, it aims to reduce transmission and distribution losses and ensure stable and secure power supply to end users. As one of the key implementing agencies of the scheme, REC provides financial support and project coordination, while CPRI, as a national power research institute, possesses technical expertise in quality testing and standardization of power equipment. This collaboration will help establish a more robust supply chain quality supervision system within the RDSS framework.
