en.Wedoany.com Reported - The North-East Sustainable Development Stakeholders Forum (NESFSD) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Managing Director of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, for approving the release of 80 billion naira in funding, describing it as timely support for flood-prone communities across the country.
The forum considers this funding a timely intervention to address recurring flood damage, reflecting the federal government's commitment to protecting lives and property and strengthening disaster preparedness in flood-prone areas. In a statement jointly signed by the forum's National Chairman, Alhaji Murtala Sule Jalingo, and Secretary General, Danladi Bawa Gombe, the forum stated that the funds will significantly enhance flood control and mitigation efforts, particularly in states under HYPPADEC's jurisdiction, where seasonal flooding continues to threaten communities and livelihoods.
Stakeholders urged the federal government to sustain support by allocating more resources for long-term flood control measures and environmental protection. They expressed confidence that the approved funds will be managed transparently and effectively to address challenges from heavy rainfall and enhance the resilience of affected communities.
The forum also praised the leadership of HYPPADEC Managing Director Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, noting that his efforts have improved service delivery through regular project reviews, field monitoring, and performance evaluations. The statement highlighted that Yelwa's hands-on leadership style has helped in early identification of operational challenges, improved coordination, and efficient execution of development projects.
Under Yelwa's leadership, HYPPADEC has maintained annual flood preparedness activities by conducting early awareness programs for flood-prone communities before the rainy season. These awareness campaigns help residents prepare for floods, complementing government efforts to reduce loss of life and property.
Stakeholders emphasized the commission's interventions in Gombe and Taraba states, noting that these projects are tailored to the needs of the host communities, helping to improve livelihoods, support development, and promote sustainable growth in areas affected by hydroelectric activities and flooding.
The forum reaffirmed its support for the federal government's flood control and mitigation efforts, encouraging relevant agencies to continue collaborating to ensure that flood-prone communities receive lasting protection through effective infrastructure, environmental protection, and disaster management programs.
