en.Wedoany.com Reported - UK defense company BAE Systems has commissioned Hallgruppen to begin construction of a new £3.3 million (approximately 30 million RMB) painting facility at the Govan shipyard in Glasgow. Covering 1,100 square meters, this fabric-covered building is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. It is designed to paint up to four ship sections simultaneously, including the largest components such as the bow and stern. The facility will be dedicated to painting ship sections, freeing up other areas of the shipyard to ensure the continued production of Type 26 frigates.

Simon Lister, Managing Director of Naval Ships at BAE Systems, stated that the new painting facility is an important step in the ongoing investment in the Glasgow shipyards, helping to modernize infrastructure and improve production efficiency. He added that this investment enhances the company's ability to deliver Type 26 frigates efficiently, quickly, and with high quality, reflecting its commitment to continuously improving shipbuilding capabilities to meet current and future customer needs.

The Type 26 "City-class" anti-submarine frigate, the future mainstay of the Royal Navy, is currently being built at the Govan and Scotstoun shipyards. This £360 million modernization investment covers multiple infrastructure and automation upgrades, including the construction of new assembly workshops and the introduction of digital technologies. The commencement of the painting facility marks another key milestone in the modernization process of the shipyard.
